Mobile Device Management for children

Kurio has announced the launch of a brand new smartphone named "Kurio Phone". This smartphone is designed especially for children under the age of 13.

This phone gives the parents nearly full control over their children's phone. The phone automatically sends the location of the child, parents can manage their children's contact list, decide which applications may be installed, ... They even can limit the number of texts which can be sent.

This way managing phones looks a bit similar to a new services EASI has recently added, Mobile Device Management. This service allows IT departments to easily manage the phones of their employees and restrict the install of applications, data roaming, ...

However, some psychologists think it's not right to control the use of smartphones of children. They say children aren't allowed to own a smartphone, if their not capable to set their own boundaries.

I think it's good to have a certain control, but what do you think? Do you think children under 13 should own a smartphone? How far would you go into controlling the devices of your children or employees?
